Her sunny disposition and sparkling personality helped to lift spirits in America during the Depression years. She is among the youngest Oscar winners. She was one of the first to undergo a mastectomy and raise awareness. She has been inspirational both on-screen and off-screen. Her death will be regretted by many, both in show-business and the general public.
